When T. Parker Host, Sr. incorporated our company, he laid out many purposes for the business: ship agency, freight forwarders, brokers, ship suppliers, terminal operators, stevedores, marine asset owners, and terminal owners.

After 93 years in business, we’ve fulfilled every part of his vision. On March 24, 2016, T. Parker Host, Inc. purchased its first terminal: Tidewater Tank Terminal, located in Chesapeake, VA.

Previously known as “Triport,” the facility receives trucks of product, stores it in tanks, and then transports it by barge to the Northeast. The operation will transport over 100 million gallons per year.

Six months ago, when our client approached us with their need, Host developed a customized solution. We time-chartered one barge (now two barges) to streamline their number of vendors, and through extensive research, we identified Triport as the ideal location due to its storage capacity and water accessibility.

Until Host’s operation began in December, the terminal had been under-utilized due to its close proximity to the Gilmerton Bridge, which many ships find challenging to navigate. When our operations began, the terminal was coincidentally up for sale, and no investments were being made in the facility’s upkeep. Dedicated to the solution, our purchase of the terminal will allow us to continue achieving efficiencies for our client. It’s a great example of our commitment to exceptional service and customer-focused relationships.

We’re happy to begin the revitalization of this area, and we’re looking forward to future opportunities.
